Ron Campbell

Ronald D. Campbell
(Ronnie)
Dec. 20, 1929 - Jan. 6, 1998

Ronnie Campbell was born December 20, 1929 to Claude & Phyllis (Dodd) Campbell of Shelton, Nebraska. He graduated from Shelton High School in 1948. After 2 years of college he was drafted and spent 19 months on the front lines of Korea, driving a wrecker. He was honorably discharged in April 1953.

On June 6, 1953 he married Evelyn Morosic. They always lived in Wood River. He worked as a mechanic for Hindmarsh Chevrolet for some time. He then managed Kenny's Grocery for 4 years before getting on at Sperry New Holland where he worked for 27 years as a machinist.

They have three daughters - Mrs. Dave (Debra) Harders, Alda; Mrs. Ray (Rae Ann) Saunders, Grand Island; and Mrs- Bruce (Suzanne) Lans, of Stamford. Ronnie also has two brothers - Harold and Gary.

During the summers Ron and Ev enjoyed their trailer at Harlan County where Fishing was Ron's hobby. After retirement they went to Arizona to get out of the cold weather. There he loved to play shuffleboard. Ronnie was very handy with crafts and all the family has many things he has made.

Ronnie served on District 8 school board and helped get the new school. He also served many years on the Wood River Volunteer Fire Department.

To sum it up I would say his family, his grandkids, his church and FISHING were his life.

He died in Mesa Arizona on January 6, 1998 of a massive stroke while talking to Ev.

He will be remembered for always working - in his yard or his shop, and always attending the grandkids activities and sports
