Hugo and Jennelea (Bald) Carter

Hugo E. Carter and Jennelea Bald Carter were married March 24, 1927 at the bride's home in Wood River, Nebraska. They celebrated their 50th Wedding Anniversary in 1977. They had two daughters, Betty Ann Carter Garrett and Jeanne Carter Kruse. They were living in Wood River at the time of their deaths. Hugo E. Carter was born July 7, 1907 and died August 21, 1978. Jeannelea Carter was born July 23, 1905 and died May 29. 1998.
Hugo was associated with Paulk's Super Service Garage for 50 years and during the last 20 years was co-owner with Maurice Paulk. The business was sold in November 1979, and since that time he had been employed part time at Peters Hardware.
Both were very active in the community. Hugo was a member of the First Presbyterian Church serving faithfully in many areas. He was a member of the Wood River Volunteer Fire Department since 1919, and honored for 50 years of service. He belonged to Masonic Lodge No. 211, Order of Eastern Star No. 115, Wood River Lions Club, was a Council Member of Boy Scout Troup No. 133 and a former District 8 school board member. He was an active amateur operator and a member of the American Radio Relay League.
Jennelea was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, serving faithfully in many areas. She was assistant librarian for eight years and head librarian for 14 years at the Maltman Memorial Public Library in Wood River, a member of the Order of the Eastern Star and a member of the Past Matrons' Club. She was a charter member of the Western Hall County Good Samaritan Center, serving on its advisory board for 25 years. She was a forty-four year member and Past President of the disbanded Federated Woman's Club of Wood River.
Besides their memberships in many community organizations, both were supportive of all community activities. They attended school activities such as games, plays, musical events, and other activities in Wood River.
They should be remembered for their involvement in the community.
